About Me
VS Photography
I am a christian photographer and a homeschool graduate. Still learning and trying to use what God has given me for His glory. :) There is more about me on the right side of my blog. The "About Me" box said it was too long. =/
I first became interested in Photography when I was thirteen years old. My dad has always been very creative and loved playing with our film camera. Although I did not always like the fact that my loving father enjoyed this. Every holiday it was the same routine “stand over here, no over there the lighting is better, o.k. now be really still and smile.” as he made silly faces at us to make us laugh. This would proceed for an hour and a half till our faces were so tight that they were permanently stuck in a smile (which if you think about it, it’s not a “bad” thing.) I never understood why he liked doing this and I always wondered “what is artistic about a snap shot?”. A year or so down the road I began to see the light. I started begging for a digital camera. When I was fifteen on Christmas eve my parents gave me my first digital camera a Nikon coolpix 4600 . I am sure like all children on Christmas I thought I was the happiest kid on earth! From that point on the rest was history! The following year my parents noticed that my passion for photography was growing rapidly they knew it was time to step me up to a better camera. That next Christmas they presented me with a Nikon D50! Once again, I thought I was the happiest kid on earth! Since then I have been photo crazy. I take pictures of every thing. I have people ask me “Why are you taking a picture of that?” I explain to them why and they say “Oh that’s neat” and they walk away with a puzzled look on there face. I laugh so often about that, they make the same face and ask the same questions I asked my dad years ago. Who would have ever thought that I would be very soon inflicting the same misery on other families as our dad inflicted on us! ;D I understand now what my dad sees when he takes a picture. It’s not just a landscape it's God’s beautiful creation captured with one click, held in place exactly as you saw it , to be enjoyed for years to come. And a door nob, it’s not just a door nob, when taken in a particular way, it says something. “Unlock your heart .” “Knock and the door shall be open unto you”. Anything. It is all in the way you take the picture. I want to share with others what I have seen.
My Mission
Ever heard the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words?” Previously I thought "How can I serve God with my photography?? How could God use this for His glory? ". I expressed this to our very dear friends who I knew were heading into missions. They told me how their hearts were changed toward missions because of a picture they had seen. The picture was of a man on the steps of a place of worship for his religion. Bent over in agony, weeping with his young dead child draped across his arms. The family explained to me that the look on the man’s face was of despair. They showed me the photo, it was very moving. As I looked at this photo I noticed. For this man (while he may think otherwise) truly there was no peace from a loving Savior, no hope of ever seeing his child again, here or in Heaven. The man (sadly unbeknown to him as hard as I am sure he tries) was forever lost. It was then that I learned more than ever that God CAN use photography to change lives! Because of that image our dear friends are now full-time missionaries. I said to myself "Wow! There is so much more to this photography thing than I first thought!" That is why my mission now is to show the world through photography that our God is Great and Worthy to be praised! I thank my father now for his artistic genes, for driving me crazy all those years because now I understand, and now love what he loves. So, now I am graduated and plan on studying my photography abroad and traveling with it. I have also been invited to go with my missionary friends to take pictures of the region for their prayer calender. And I have many other mission opportunities . I am very excited about what God has in store for me. †
